Another hot day in store today. Here's a few ways to help keep your dog cool ......

Keep your dog out of the midday sun and make sure there is plenty of fresh, clean water available at all times. Keep the bowl out of the sun and put ice cubes into the bowl to keep the water cool.

Why not treat them to some frozen yoghurt or melon balls. If your dog is struggling with the heat, keep his coat damp with a cool water spray, especially his tummy; a paddling pool is even better.

Take extra care with brachycephalic breeds and don't over do it with their exercise. Make sure you keep their creases clean as infections can occur, especially during the summer.

For longer coated breeds, ask your groomer about having a tunnel clip, which clears their tummy of excess hair but isn't visible when the dog stands. This way they can sprawl on cold surfaces and regulate their temperature better.

Exercise is best first thing in the morning and late evening and be especially careful of hot pavements, it can seriously burn your dog's pads.

Bald breeds need sun cream and those with paler skin could do with sun screen on noses and ear tips.

BUT ABOVE ALL, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN A CAR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, EVEN IN THE SHADE AS TEMPERATURES CAN STILL BE HIGH AND THE SUN MOVES!

All precautionary measures which enables owners and dogs alike to enjoy the sun safely.
