A month behind the scenes

Our busy daycare gets through:

• 1,000 poo bags and 200 tennis balls

• 18 blue rolls and 24 packs of baby wipes

• 45 litres of cleaning solution and 500ml of antibacterial hand gel

• About 500 dog visits, with an average of two new clients each week

And we still think we have the best job in the world!

Why does dog grooming cost more than a haircut?

Specialist equipment and whole-body care. Different coats need different scissors, combs, brushes, dryers and styling techniques. A groom also involves cleaning ears and eyes, nail care and much more than the hair on a dog’s head. Towels, cleaning supplies and disinfection are part of every working day.

Time and coat condition. Dirt, knots and matting take time to manage. Dogs may wriggle or need breaks, so appointments must allow for individual needs.

Comfort and safe handling. Some dogs find grooming stressful or show defensive behaviour. We work at a pace appropriate to the dog and may adapt, pause or stop the groom, or divide it across appointments. Grooming proceeds only where handling is safe and the dog’s welfare can be protected. Where coat condition or distress requires veterinary support, we will discuss referral with the owner.
